Eudora 6.2.1 setup

These notes are for users of Eudora from version 6.2.1 who are having trouble connecting to the Econometrics Laboratory mail server. Please note that Eudora is not a supported application in the department, and we have limited facilities and time for diagnosing configuration issues.

These screen shots are from Tools -> Options. They assume that the account username is 'parkave', and that the sender is able to use the EML server (econ.berkeley.edu) to send mail. Off-campus connections for sending, especially those using commercial service providers, may require that the service provider's mail server is used. You must also permit incoming and outgoing mail traffic through your firewall. Usually ports 993 for encrypted IMAP incoming, and port 25 for SMTP outgoing.

Basic account information and servers. Note that you may have to use the sending service of your provider.

Note the Secure Sockets setting.

IMAP is the recommended protocol. The IMAP Mailbox Location prefix field should be left blank.

These settings should work with most outgoing mail servers in addition to ours.

This shows the alternate, Secure Sockets Layer port number (993) for IMAP. Some service providers may use an alternate SMPT port. This is where you would set it.

If you encounter any problems with your use of Park Avenue, send email to . Do not send messages to the Econometrics Laboratory (i.e., do not send messages to trouble, manager, consult, or postmaster as you would if you encountered problems with one of the Suns).
