TO CHANGE SECTIONS

Revised for Fall 2008

(Undergraduate Classes Only)

First: Understand that TAs print out roll sheets for their sections during the first 5 days of classes. Students on the roll sheets who do not attend section are dropped. If you change sections during the first 5 days of classes, we won't know about it. Consequently, if you want to avoid being dropped from the class, you MUST contact both the TA of the section you were originally enrolled with as well as your new official TA.

To change your section, you must logon to TELEBEARS and switch to a section with space in it. DO NOT drop the class and then re-add it. Switch sections using the TELEBEARS Switch Section option.

To find an open section, you should use INFOBEARS before using TELEBEARS. Do not use the TELEBEARS option "search for an open section" because it will tell you that all sections are full, which is true for students trying to ADD the class, but it is not necessarily true for students trying to switch sections. INFOBEARS will tell you which sections are not yet fully enrolled-you may switch to one of those sections. You cannot switch to a section that is fully enrolled.

HELPFUL HINT: If the section you want is full, try to enroll in another section taught by the same TA. TA names are listed on the online Schedule of Classes. If you are successful, then just tell the TA that you are enrolled in one of his/her sections, but will be attending the other.

The only way to change sections is through TELEBEARS. The time frame in which this is possible is listed on the TeleBear and OLADS page. If you are unable to get into a section that is acceptable to you, your only option is to drop the course.
