READ: PRINTER FEE POLICY FOR DEPARTMENTAL NETWORKED PRINTERS

Special Printing Arrangements for accredited GSRs

Invoices for printing will be emailed on or about the last day of the semester to your EML account, or the account you gave when registering for your Windows access. If you are leaving earlier, you may request a statement from the System Administrators prior to the normal date.

Outstanding charges from a previous semester or summer session will not be re-invoiced or included in subsequent invoices. Accounts with outstanding charges will have printing rights removed two weeks after the start of the next period of instruction.

Paper for the printer in 608A is usually stocked in the room, or it can be obtained from 608B, the copier room. If 608B is locked, ask one of the departmental staff for assistance. For problems with paper jams, or if the toner is low, ask for assistance in 687/689 or 649 Evans Hall.

The printer feeds paper from the bottom tray (3) first, then from tray 2. The paper feeds through Tray 2 from Tray 3, so do not remove Tray 2 if the machine is printing. You can load paper into Tray 3 when the machine is printing from Tray 2. It is usually best to load a full pack of paper into an empty tray. Do not include dog-eared or creased paper. The LaserJet 4250 will ask you to confirm the paper size by pressing the small green button on the control panel marked with a curved arrow Laser Jet key marking..

The Park Avenue printer is set to halt printing at a 'toner out' signal. Print jobs will continue to accumulate in the print queue, and will clear when the printer toner is replaced. You can check the print queue (Start -> Settings -> Printers, double click the print queue) to see where your job is placed. Cancelled jobs are credited to your printing quota.

Your printer usage is monitored, and you will incur charges (see Printer Fee Policy). To find out how many pages you've used, run the Charges shortcut on the Desktop. Alternatively, open the file T:username.prd where 'username' is your logon username. Registered department GSRs will be able to use print queues charged to a project account.

The default printing mode is Duplex, but single side may be selected if required. An N-up printer driver is available for printing multiple pages on a single side of paper for applications that do not support this function directly.

Some applications (Word for example) allow you to N-up print from the application. This will reduce your printing charges as the accounting system only sees pages after the application has finished with them. The Distiller printer driver will also N-up, so you can create a PDF for a similar result.

The following print queues are available on all systems:

There are GSR equivalents to the parkave and pa2up queues for authorised users. There are local queues for some offices with local printers. The actual selection available depends on your physical location and the access you have been given.

If you encounter any problems with your use of Park Avenue, send email to . Do not send messages to the Econometrics Laboratory (i.e., do not send messages to trouble, manager, consult, or postmaster as you would if you encountered problems with one of the Suns).
